The Big Move

Moving day arrived, all the boxes were packed
And loaded in the van, precariously stacked
Then to my horror I saw that they’d managed
To put LPs at the bottom – hopefully not damaged!
Furniture loaded – would we get it all in?
Phew just about! The van was full to the brim
Off to our new home – pulling in to our road
And then all of the boxes we had to unload
Surrounded by chaos, don’t know where to begin
Unpacking it all – but so glad we’ve moved in!

Decorating dramas

Surrounded by chaos – the house is a mess
Moving day approaching – everyone’s stressed
Painting the ceiling, painting the wall
Sanding the skirting boards out in the hall
Floorboards all up whilst the cables are laid
Neighbours complaining about the noise that we’ve made
Crossing the bedroom, a sudden sinking feeling
As my father-in-law puts his foot through the ceiling
Putting the pieces up, gaps needing filling
Laying down floorboards, sawing and drilling
Mending and patching, building and creating
And looking forward to the end of all this decorating!

Memories of my wonderful Dad

Friday nights at the bingo hall, hoping to have a shout
Showing how much I loved you by stretching my arms out
The way that you used to say “Happy New Year”
Are some of the memories that I hold so dear

Sitting all round the table, playing games of Mah-jong
Afternoons playing the piano and singing along
Coming home to surprise you and seeing your smile
Your look of pride at my wedding as I walked down the aisle

Saturday nights and popping out for Chinese
Watching old movies, eating crackers and cheese
All of the film books we used to flick through
Wonderful memories that remind me of you

Singing ‘happy birthday’ whilst stood in the churchyard
The first birthday without you – finding it so hard
Love and miss you forever – but so proud that I had
Such a wonderful person like you for my dad

Decorating woes

The decorating continues as it has for the past six weeks;
The bathroom floor is soaking wet thanks to a pipe that leaks.
Until the floor has dried right out we cannot lay the flooring
Which sets us back a week or so – it’s getting rather boring.
I’m sick of decorating now, want to move ASAP.
I hope that it all ends soon – keep your fingers crossed for me.

The inspiration behind the blog's creation

National Poetry Day provided the inspiration
And the challenge which led to this blog’s creation
In which I’ll record my life and times
And try to set it all to rhymes.
In the art of poetry, I’m hardly a master -
Some attempts may well be complete disasters:
The meter appalling and completely offbeat,
But bear with me please while I’m finding my feet.
